Solihull, UK, 10 August 2026 Norton Motorcycles has revealed the Manx [P]R: a one-of-one interpretation of its flagship Manx R, created with emerging British art and design practice Peaceful Research.
Finished in metallic pink and deep purple with an intentionally asymmetrical graphic treatment, the motorcycle was conceived as an art piece rather than a conventional race replica. The Manx [P]R made its public debut during the British MotoGP weekend at Silverstone. The project places Norton’s modern superbike at the intersection of motorsport heritage, industrial design and contemporary culture, accompanied by an ultra-limited apparel drop co-developed by the two brands.
Peaceful Research reworks automotive references and reclaimed components into contemporary artworks, sculptural objects and limited-edition goods. The practice, founded by Matthew Varker and Ryan Bale, is rooted in a quiet commitment to craft and dedication to thoughtfully researched designs.
Christoph Hohmann, Chief Marketing Officer at Norton Motorcycles, said: “Peaceful Research makes intelligent, beautifully executed work, and we have admired the way Matt and Ryan take the visual language of racing and make it relevant to contemporary culture. Norton fans are individual and creative. Like us, they care about craftsmanship and self-expression. The Manx [P]R feels unmistakably like Peaceful Research, and that uniqueness is exactly what we wanted.”
Rather than treating the Manx R as a flat canvas, Peaceful Research let the shape and construction of the Manx R determine the composition. Enlarged sections of its “P” and “R” symbols wrap across the sculptural bodywork in a design deliberately different on each side. From a distance, they read as bold graphics. Up close, they break into abstract fragments as the panels change angle and catch the light.
The split reflects the two sides of the practice: Varker’s graphic and conceptual work and Bale’s approach to fabrication and materials. Its asymmetry is highly intentional, with the two sides balanced as parts of one complete object without repeating the same design. This approach required the designers to judge the visual balance of the complete machine throughout the process. A “26” graphic on the tail dates the project to 2026.
Large areas of metallic pink, deep purple and light grey replace the dense graphic layouts normally associated with racing liveries. Pink was chosen precisely because it’s unexpected. It’s unmistakably unconventional and creates a confident tension with the Manx R’s exposed engineering and carbon-fibre bodywork. The custom pink finish combines paint and vinyl beneath a pearlescent lacquer containing a subtle purple fleck, changing its character under different light and from different viewing angles.
Matthew Varker, co-founder of Peaceful Research, said: “This was our first motorcycle project, and the Manx R forced us to think very differently. Its panels curve, overlap and disappear, so the graphics had to work as fragments and from every angle, rather than as one composition placed onto a flat surface.”
Developed through several months of conversations, the final motorcycle was completed in a ten-day process involving colour trials, disassembly, painting, vinyl application, lacquering and reassembly.
Ryan Bale, co-founder of Peaceful Research, said: “Peaceful Research came from bringing together Matt’s graphic practice and my obsession with building, restoring and collecting cars. Norton has the heritage to give the project meaning, but also the confidence to let us challenge convention. That made it the ideal brand for our first move onto two wheels.”
Created as a cultural project, the Manx [P]R brings together racing iconography, design and fan culture into one place. The collaboration uses the setting of the British MotoGP weekend at Silverstone and visual codes of racing as raw material for a contemporary piece of design.
Alongside the motorcycle, Peaceful Research released an ultra-limited apparel capsule through peacefulresearch.com. The collection is available for one week only, until 19:00 BST on Friday 14 August 2026, or until sold out, with no restocks.
The Manx [P]R will continue to go on display at selected exhibits. Fans can follow Norton Motorcycles on social media for details of where the motorcycle will appear next.
Peaceful Research will open its new headquarters and first physical store in Ancoats, Manchester, later this year.
